At the moment we have a bit of a cash flow issue. You know the month where you need to buy a new car seat, renew all the passports and you run out of the massive bag of dog food? Yeah, that’s this month. It will all balance out, but in the meantime we are working hard to keep our outgoings as limited as possible.
With that in mind, we are having a week of cooking from the larder.
A metaphorical larder. I mean a number of highly disorganised cupboards and a fridge freezer some of the contents of which is a mystery (I’m looking at you unknown meal of indeterminate age! Did I cook you? Where you cooked by my Mum when Small was tiny? Who knows!).
The other night was Freezer and Tin night. Tinned tomatoes and chickpeas with frozen fish fillets and a variety of frozen veg. Easy, cheap and, with a bit in the way of herbs and spices, yummy. We’ve done similar before with curry powder, and that’s good too!
Last night was delicious. Pasta with bacon, peas and sour cream. Simple, quick and so good!
I don’t think of myself as much of a cook, but watching Small tuck into something I have made does boost my confidence! I guess I should enjoy it before he refuses to eat anything that isn’t a chicken nugget…
We’re going to be continuing in a fridge and cupboard raiding vein for the rest of the weekend, so feel free to check back if you’re interested in how we’re doing! In the meantime, what do I do with the cavalo nero that seemed like a good idea at the time?
